A Global Take on Romantic NYC Venues for Valentine's Day
When it comes to finding a romantic restaurant to take a loved one for Valentine's Day, the list of possibilities is almost endless. Mary Murphy, concierge at the Omni Berkshire Place, takes a global approach when it comes to recommending venues to her guests. "I like to suggest to my guests to choose a city they would love to be transported to for the evening and then find them the perfect spot," she says. For a little Parisian getaway in the City the Never Sleeps, Murphy suggests Deux Amis. The Midtown East restaurant is a local neighborhood favorite with the feel of a side street Paris bistro. The perfect venue for romance, rose petals are scattered over each table, while the bar and tables are lit with the soft glow of candlelight and romantic music emanates from the background. "This is perfect for the couple who want something small and cozy, with a feel of romance in the air." For a taste of Vienna, Murphy says head to Wallsé. The modern, upscale eatery in the West Village boasts authentic Austrian cuisine and the small, intimate rooms make it a good choice for a romantic evening. If you are feeling adventurous, Murphy recommends trying something from the Viennese section of the menu, especially the veal schnitzel, which is "cooked to perfection." To evoke the rustic nature of Tuscany, visit I Coppi Restaurant. Murphy describes the East Village restaurant as an oasis away from the busy surrounding streets. Menu selections are Tuscan-cooked in a wood-burning oven, and the lovely garden is open all year long. For American cuisine, Murphy suggests looking no further than the Omni Berkshire Place's restaurant, Fireside. The aptly named restaurant is warm, intimate and romantic—candles surround the dining room and soft, romantic music plays in the background. Several menu items can be shared and the restaurant has added several international selections to its American menu—part of the "Simply street food" promotion, which runs through March. There are two secluded areas with tables for two, serving as "the perfect place for privacy and perhaps a proposal." Remember, reservations are a must, and Murphy advises speaking with your concierge, who will be delighted to assist you in arranging the perfect evening.
