Top Picks For Enjoying Central Park in the Winter
Even in the colder months, Central Park is a magical oasis that seems miles away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding metropolis. James Lamboglia, concierge at The Plaza, has several top picks for activities and attractions to enjoy during the colder months. For those who want to go ice-skating, Trump Wollman Rink is just a short walk into the park. "I think this is the prettiest skating rink in New York because it is the most picturesque," Lamboglia says. From this vantage point, you have awe-inspiring views of the cityscape—including trees, famous hotels and apartment buildings that surround Central Park. For a peak at wildlife, the Central Park Zoo—a great attraction for families—is open year-round and houses mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. For a bird’s-eye-view of the park, head to Belvedere Castle. "This is a great spot for pictures," Lamboglia says. "I also recommend the Castle to families because in The Smurfs movie Gargamel uses the castle as his headquarters in his plan to capture the Smurfs. For a scenic weekend brunch or nice lunch spot during the winter, The Loeb Boathouse Central Park rests right on the park’s lake. The modern bistro ROBERT sits on the top floor of the nearby Museum of Arts & Design and offers a great view of the park, too.
