Although New York City boasts tons of entertainment, restaurants and attractions for the older set—including amazing nightlife and five-star restaurants, “it’s important to remember that NYC is also a family mecca with many options to keep children of all ages entertained, as well as the children in us all,” says Mark G. Thompson, concierge at the New York Marriott Marquis. The area near Manhattan’s famed Times Square—specifically W. 42nd St., btw Seventh and Eighth aves.—houses several family-friendly attractions. “Dave & Buster’s is by far my favorite family-friendly attraction in the city,” Thompson says. This multi-level entertainment and arcade emporium is a great option for young teens and adults. “With drinks for the adults, games for the kids and above-average quality food, you won’t be disappointed.” Madame Tussauds New York is the perfect option for the entire family due to its wide range of wax figures. “Where else can Billie Holiday share the same location as Justin Bieber?” Parents and kids can also snap photos with the attraction’s extensive collection of sports figures, rock stars, actors and politicians. For a bit of the unusual, Thompson suggests a trip to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square. “From the simply outlandish to the truly macabre, Ripley’s is a must-see attraction with exhibits only slightly more bizarre than what you’ll find on an average New York street,” Thompson says. If you venture out of the Times Square area, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan is just a quick subway ride away on the Upper West Side. The sprawling space is full of interactive activities and exhibits geared towards newborns all the way to 10-year-old children. Thompson advises to go early as it tends to get crowded, and “the bilingual exhibit, Adventures with Dora & Diego, created in collaboration with Nickelodeon, is not to be missed,” he says.
