The Best Pizza Places in Town
New York City is known for a lot of things, and its world-famous pizza is definitely one of them. At any given place, hungry diners can choose from thin or thick crust and a number of toppings, which range from traditional to exotic. Juliet Markowitz, concierge at The Plaza, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, has several top picks for the best pizza places in town. If ordering pizza by the slice, she recommends Bella Vita Pizzeria. The Midtown West restaurant serves up Old World brick oven pizza and uses fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. “I always go with the classic Margherita slice,” Markowitz says. For a great slice with creative toppings, Markowitz suggests heading to Anna Maria Pizza in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “My favorite is the eggplant slice with garlic and basil,” she says. For those pizza lovers who want an entire pie, Angelo’s Pizza is the way to go. The restaurant has a location in Midtown East, as well as Midtown West, and offers up thin crust, coal oven pizza with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. Markowitz is partial to the west side location and says you can’t go wrong with the restaurant’s classic Margherita pie. For authentic Neapolitan pizza by the pie, Markowitz recommends PizzArte in Midtown West. The pies are thin crust and a personal size is about 10 inches. The pizza is “light with almost no oil/grease dripping,” she says. In the Financial District, Adrienne’s Pizza Bar will also satisfy your pizza craving. “If you want to connect with your Sicilian side, try the thin crust, square, grandma-style pie,” Markowitz says.
