“While some might argue that it takes a true thrill seeker to merely combat a daily commute through our vast city, there are also a myriad of ways to take that adrenaline to the next level,” says Sarah Pesek, concierge at Midtown East’s The Benjamin, who suggests quite a few ways to get the heart rate racing in NYC—from roller coasters and suspenseful attractions, to fun on the Hudson and a chance to feel like one of The Flying Wallendas! First up, in Brooklyn’s Coney Island, Pesek recommends a trip to Luna Park, which she says is one of the most timeless activities to get your heart pumping. “While the Cyclone is a fan favorite—starting with an 85-foot climb only to plummet at a 60-degree drop, some argue that the most extreme thrills (and screams) come from The Sling Shot,” Pesek says. “The name pretty much says it all, as you shoot up into the sky more than 150 feet at more than 90 mph!” Back in Manhattan on Pier 40, adrenaline junkies can perfect their acrobatic skills by taking a flying trapeze lesson from the Trapeze School New York. “Classes are two hours long and taught in groups so you can bring your friends, family or even a bridal party,” Pesek exclaims. The school caters to all levels. For thrill-seeking indoors, Pesek says a fabulous shock to the system lies at The McKittrick Hotel in Sleep No More, which Pesek describes as “arguably the world’s most interactive play.” The show is a suspenseful film noir-type adaptation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece Macbeth. “The ticket holder gets buried inside a fantastical, fictional world where every door leads to a new piece of action,” Pesek says. “The best word to describe Sleep No More is ‘intriguing.’” For some fast-paced fun on the Hudson, Pesek suggests jet skiing. “Rockaway Jet Ski offers packages and tours that feature up-close-and-personal views of Coney Island, The Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, Battery Park and even the Statue of Liberty herself,” Pesek says, adding that the expert jet ski guides will help you make the absolute most of your experience.
