Motown: The Musical

Given the choice between pre- or post-theater dining, I invariably choose the latter. On Wednesday, after the preview performance of Motown: The Musical at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, I made a quick dash, dodging raindrops, to the Marriott Marquis across the street and an even quicker elevator ascent to the Broadway Lounge on the hotel’s 8th floor.

Last night, I saw a preview of Motown the Musical at the Nederlander Theatre (Its permanent home, when it opens in March, will be the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre). When I was a little kid, my mom would play Diana Ross and The Supremes practically on a loop, so Motown’s greatest hits was basically the soundtrack of my youth.

When I see a Broadway musical, I normally end up with one or two songs stuck in my head for about a week after the show. These could be anything from lesser-known numbers to the hits we all know and love. This Sunday, Sept. 9th, I bet this will happen to you when you stop by Times Square for Broadway on Broadway—a free concert featuring musical numbers and appearances from current Broadway shows and a sneak peek at upcoming shows opening in the new season.
