Brooklyn

Most movie theaters offer overly buttered popcorn and fountain drinks at the concession stands; however, at Williamsburg’s Nitehawk Cinema, moviegoers can enjoy a full meal with beer and cocktails from the lobby bar.

Love great food, drinks and music? Then head to Brooklyn this weekend for Great GoogaMooga. This three-day festival, held May 17-19 in Prospect Park, will welcome 85 of the city’s top restaurants, selling delicious bites in hand-painted booths—reminiscent of old New York storefronts.

One of my favorite comedians is Max Silvestri, who hosts a weekly comedy show called Big Terrific at the Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg. Silvestri, who has recently opened for Aziz Ansari, is now the sole host of the show and usually features three or more other comics’ acts sandwiched between his own on-stage banter.

Gorilla Coffee’s cozy interior is as warm as its drinks. With a mostly red color scheme and elementary school-style tables, chairs and pull-down-over-a-chalkboard map, the Park Slope store feels nostalgic and comforting.

Ever start to get a little hungry after a few drinks? Lulu’s in Greenpoint understands this phenomenon and offers a free personal pizza with each drink (more than $3) you order. Pizzas come plain, but toppings only cost a dollar extra.

Ever wanted to try your hand at indoor bocce ball, sing karaoke on stage or see semi-famous musicians and comedians in a tiny, little basement venue under a bar? Head to Union Hall where you can do all three, maybe even on the same night.

Waffles are one of my favorite foods and waffle sandwiches from Waffle & Wolf just make a good food even better.

Last weekend, I went to one of my favorite places in the city, Brooklyn Museum. I hadn’t been to the Park Slope museum for a few years, but now that I’ve been back, I remember why I love it so much.

Considering the large space requirements needed for a bowling alley, it’s surprising how many there are in New York. Midtown has a handful, Chelsea Piers has an alley in its spacious sports complex and even Greenpoint, Brooklyn has two bowling facilities, including my favorite: The Gutter.
