I first heard about Amsterdam Tavern from the fictional novel, “Ellington Boulevard” by Adam Langer. Although Langer referred to the watering hole by another name in his book, I had a weird feeling it was based on a real bar.
Last week, I traveled to the Lower East Side with a friend to see a band, Their Planes Will Block Out the Sun, play at Leftfield NYC. I don’t find myself in this area too often, so I was presently surprised when we didn’t find ourselves totally lost while looking for the venue—it’s near Delancey St., the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare.
This past Friday, I went to a going away party at the popular pizza joint in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Roberta’s. The place doesn’t take reservations, so we spent some time chatting on the back patio while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. I can’t speak for everyone, but I think most of us would have been content to spend the entire evening in the patio.
