There are always new and exciting shows popping up on the Great White Way and Kevin Howard, Assistant Chef Concierge at Hôtel Plaza Athénée New York, shares his top three picks for current Broadway shows. First up, Howard recommends Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which tells the story of the Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter’s rise to stardom, relationships with peers, and journey to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in music history. “[It’s] an amazing show with top talent, especially Jessie Mueller as Carole, giving audiences the whole story about how the impeccably talented Carole King launched her career,” Howard says. “[It is] such a joy to hear those famous songs by her, plus the ones you didn’t know she had written!” For a trip a little farther back in time, Howard suggests seeing the most recent stage telling based on Victor Hugo’s 19th-century masterpiece Les Misérables. “Fans and die-hard fans will be in Broadway heaven when they come to see this sleek and stirring revival,” Howard says. “I was blown away by such an exquisitely selected cast, who bring new life and passion into these legendary songs.” On the play front All the Way, which stars award-winning actor and Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, follows events that took place during Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency in 1964. “This is the perfect play for a showgoer not looking for a musical but a fascinating story of how Lyndon B. Johnson became president, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, to dealing with Civil Rights legislation while trying to manage the Vietnam War,” Howard says. “[This play] is a fascinating look at the man and the drama!”
