There are only a few days left until Christmas, which means tons of visitors and locals are crowding the city’s retailers and shopping districts trying to nab the last few items on their shopping lists. Needless to say, this can be stressful—but there are plenty of great low-key restaurants and bars in the city to take a much-needed break from holiday shopping. Jennifer Kim, Entertainment Planner at The Bryant Park Hotel, shares her top three. On the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center—a mecca for holiday shopping, rests Center Bar. While there, patrons can nosh on small plates, with an emphasis on Mediterranean flavors, and enjoy wine and cocktails. “It’s great that it’s in a shopping mall,” Kim says, adding, “it has really great live piano music, too.” In the heart of Rockefeller Center, shoppers will find Rock Center Café. Kim describes the American grill as calm, soothing and relaxing, as well as “a nice place to take a moment to yourself and people-watch.” While there, guests can take in the views of the nearby landmarks and ice skaters at the world-famous Rink at Rockefeller Center. Near Bryant Park, STK Midtown, a modern steakhouse with an ultra-cool lounge, is “a good place to have a nice cup of coffee and lunch,” Kim says, adding that the eatery has a nice prix fixe menu.
