Top Picks for New Restaurants in Midtown
Although New York City is home to a number of venerable eateries, that doesn’t stop newbies from opening up shop on, what at least seems like, a daily basis. Erika Mercado, concierge at Millennium Broadway Hotel New York, shares her top three picks for new restaurants in Midtown. First up, Mercado suggests a trip to retailer Tommy Bahama. Although the store is known for casual attire for men and women, a restaurant—Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar—sits on the second floor of the retailer’s Fifth Avenue location. “It’s a place where you can relax in style—very pretty and different,” Mercado says. “It feels like you went to an outside, upscale beach restaurant, complete with large windows, palm trees and light colors all around you.” Mercado also notes that the beach vibe extends to the food; several dishes offer a tropical flavor profile. “The drinks are also great,” she adds. Food Network star Guy Fieri has recently brought his eclectic mix of foods and flavors to Times Square in the form of the larger-than-life Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar. Mercado says this is a great place for hungry diners looking for something “far from normal.” The creative menu features such standouts as the Rojo Ring Burger, plus great steaks and good desserts.
Mercado adds that the spacious restaurant’s décor, including wooden accents, makes it feel warm and inviting. Of course, several well-known eateries also throw their hats in the ring and branch out into other parts of the city. Those who crave succulent steak from the famed steakhouse Delmonico’s can now have that and more at Delmonico’s Kitchen in the Garment District. The restaurant is “great for those shoppers who are looking for a divine lunch or dinner,” Mercado says—adding that the eatery boasts great seafood and steaks, as well as a very attentive staff.
