Chic Shops for Children’s Clothing on the Upper East Side
It doesn’t matter if you’re one or 100; New Yorkers always dress in style. Michael Bordenick, concierge at The Surrey, shares his top picks for chic shops to get the little ones dressed like fashionistas. “Since some of the richest kids live on the Upper East Side, this is where there is an abundance of stores to get amazingly chic clothes for them,” Bordenick explains. He suggests a trip to Il Gufo, a new arrival in the neighborhood. “It has trendy, cool Italian styles for boys and girls age 2 to 8,” he says. “They have taffeta party dresses and even ‘60s nostalgic styles.” Spring Flowers has been a mainstay on Madison Avenue since 1983 and what Bordenick describes as “the place to put together a well-heeled child’s wardrobe.” The store carries everything from underwear and sox to styles that range from casual to black-tie. Personal shoppers can even help add extra flair to your tiny tots style. For something completely different, Bordenick says check out Pink Chicken. The store, which carries unique styles for newborns up to 14-year-old girls, is described as “BOHO Chic.” “The fashions are casual, easy and joyful,” Bordenick says. Located on a little side street off Madison Avenue is Prince & Princess. There you’ll find daywear and formal wear for “little ladies and gentlemen” from a wide array of European designers. The store even boasts its own private label of fine silk dresses.
