Van Leeuwen

This artisan ice cream shop started out of a truck in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2008, and has since expanded to ten brick-and-mortar locations (seven in NYC, four in Manhattan) serving homemade vegan and classic ice creams, milkshakes, sundaes, housemade pastries and coffee from award-winning Brooklyn-based brewers Toby's Estate. Vandal

Downtown cool is embodied at this tapas restaurant-turned-club complete with installation and street art, including an 11-foot tall break dancing bunny sculpture by the Rockwell Group and wall art by Shepard Fairey. D (nightly). $$$

Vanderbilt

Small plates of crispy veal sweetbreads, candied braised fennel, risotto with English peas and more are complemented by an extensive selection of drinks and handmade spiced doughnuts with pistachio ice cream. D (nightly), Brunch (Sat & Sun).

Vanessa's Dumpling House

Soups, sandwiches, Beijing-style buns and the namesake boiled balls of dough are filled with such savory ingredients as pork and chives, Peking duck and shrimp; choose between boiled or fried. L & D (daily). $

 

Vanessa's Dumplings

A go-to for cheap and tasty Chinese food, Vanessa’s has been serving up inexpensive fresh and homemade dumplings since they opened their first restaurant in Chinatown over 10 years ago. The restaurant—now with a Williamsburg and Union Square location—also sells soups, sesame pancakes, steamed buns, bubble tea and bags of frozen dumplings to take home for later. L&D (daily). $

Vanguard Wine Bar

A mini caviar trio (spoonbill caviar, smoked trout roe, wasabi tobiko, on blintzes créme fraiche and chives,) and an assortment of small flatbread pizzas and open faced mini baguettes are on offer at this wine bar stocking more than 25 wines by the glass. L & D (daily). $$

Vaucluse

Chef Michael White offers upscale French fare, such as lapin à la moutarde (slow cooked rabbit leg with dijon, barley and bacon), in a stately space featuring art-deco light fixtures and linen banquettes. Specialties include the white label burger: an aged beef blend patty served with fontina cheese, tomato jam and dijonnaise. L (M-F), D (nightly), Brunch (Su). $$$$

Vegetarian Dim Sum House

More than 200 vegetable- and grain-based dishes range from “shark fin” dumplings and lotus root cakes to sautéed honey mock pork and hot and spicy bean curd. Brunch, L & D (daily). $$

Vella Wine Bar + Kitchen

Conventional wine-bar dishes such as charcuterie and crab and avocado toast are complemented by hearty dishes of Asian-style baby back ribs or mushroom fettucine, on a menu with a wine list featuring more than 20 wines by the glass. L (W-F), D (nightly), Brunch (Sa & Su). $$

Veselka

A late-night East Village institution since 1954, this 24-hour Ukranian diner serves up handmade pierogi and renowned borscht, alongside conventional American classics and seasonal specials like watermelon iced tea. B, L & D (daily). $$
