Named after Chef Justin Smillie’s northern California hometown, this trendy spot features Italian and coastal California-inspired dishes, such as blistered shishito peppers with bottarga (cured fish roe) and a variety of housemade pastas. L (M-F), D (nightly), Brunch (Sa & Su).

Elaborate housemade specialty cocktails and high-end by-the-glass wines complement an eclectic food menu with a variety of dessert options (lime vanilla créme brûlée; cappuccino panna cotta), at this year-round terrace atop the Kimberly Hotel, with dazzling views of Midtown and the Chrysler Building. Heated wood floors and retractable glass ceiling and walls make this rooftop resto/cocktail bar an all-season hotspot, with diners taking in the 360-degree view of the city while indulging in curry-coconut chicken pot pie and a cocktail list filled with cute descriptions. The décor, an unexpcted mix of edgy modern and old school ostentacious, adds to the experience.

Urbanspace Vanderbilt

This food court a few blocks from Grand Central Terminal opens early with breakfast specialties from craft NYC vendors such as Mr. Bing (crepe-style Shanghai-inspired egg dishes) and Ovenly (gourmet donuts), and buzzes midday with many vendors offering beer and wine on happy hour, and NoLita-based Seamore's fishery serving a full bar in a tucked away upstairs lounge-style space overlooking the market. Utsav Indian Bar & Grill

There is a cozy bar and outdoor seating on the lower level and, on the upper level, elegant decor and floor-to-ceiling windows, where you can enjoy savory traditional Indian flavors. Convenient for pre-theater dining. L & D (daily). $$$

Van Leeuwen

This artisan ice cream shop started out of a truck in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2008, and has since expanded to ten brick-and-mortar locations (seven in NYC, four in Manhattan) serving homemade vegan and classic ice creams, milkshakes, sundaes, housemade pastries and coffee from award-winning Brooklyn-based brewers Toby's Estate. Vandal

Downtown cool is embodied at this tapas restaurant-turned-club complete with installation and street art, including an 11-foot tall break dancing bunny sculpture by the Rockwell Group and wall art by Shepard Fairey. D (nightly). $$$

Vanderbilt
