(Oct. 11-31) Up to 30 guests nightly can be immersed in a Halloween-themed mystery production in which members of a fictional Poe society attempt to solve the mystery of the author's death. Light fare and craft cocktails are served throughout the experience.
Guides, whose lives were transformed by the events of 9/11, share their personal stories while taking visitors on a tour of Ground Zero. The 75-minute walking tours run on the hour Sun-Fri 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.-4 p.m. $22 adults, $17 students/military, $7 children ages 6-12 (includes admission to the 9/11 Tribute Center).
In-house events such as Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant in conversation with Katie Couric and the Third Annual NYCDOE Educators Collective Concert are at the Y in April, along with many other programs structured for varying age groups. Interactive sessions like the Architectural Walking Tour of Brooklyn via the G Train are also offered frequently. Programs are categorized by interest and include Jewish life, performing arts, health and fitness, and others.
Tours depart from Manhattan and take visitors to iconic locations and sites around this famous borough. In the Brooklyn Neighborhood Tour, visit the Hotel St. George, the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, see Barclays Center, where the Brooklyn Nets play basketball and visit famous Brooklyn movie locations where “The Godfather,” “Moonstruck” and “As Good As It Gets” were filmed. The Brooklyn Pizza Tour takes you to Grimaldi’s for its Neapolitan pizza, L&B Spumoni Gardens for its Sicilian, walk the Coney Island Boardwalk and more.
Visitors sample hefty helpings of ethnic cuisine, as well as learn about the history and community of these culturally distinct neighborhoods on these walking tours.
