Warming Up My Winter Tresses

Warming Up My Winter Tresses

A glimpse of the Patrick Melville Salon.

I’m proud to say that this lifelong brunette now boasts sassy, coppery strands, courtesy of celebrity colorist Rick Wellman. I stopped by to see the co-owner of the Patrick Melville Salon in Rockefeller Center last Friday, who seemed excited when I requested a fiery new look. He proposed a mix of permanent and semi-permanent dyes in a few different shades, making for a vibrant, yet natural look that complements my fair complexion. Rick also mentioned that the color would continue to look great as my hair grows out. No routine touch-ups? I was sold. The colorist, who has worked with Brooke Shields, Mariska Hargitay and Lindsay Lohan, carefully applied the dye to my hair by hand and with a brush. Rather than using traditional foiling for the highlights, Rick opted for the “Biolights” technique, which uses biodegradable cotton strips to wrap the hair with the dye. Rick explained that the method allows for more precise color and leave hair less damaged than typical dye techniques. The entire process, including blow-drying, took about two hours and I left the salon with bright shades of gold, burnt sienna, chestnut and auburn.  A week later, the compliments keep coming in and the color still pops. Success.
