A Hair-Raisingly Good Deal

A Hair-Raisingly Good Deal

In this era of blow-dry bars and corner nail salons, the old-fashioned, full-service spa–the type that treats you from (highlighted) head to (pedicured) toe–is an endangered species, I fear. That’s why I was happy to learn that Townhouse Spa in Midtown offers haircare services (along with massages, facials and waxes). Even better: To commemorate the arrival of its new Artistic Salon Director, the spa is offering haircuts and blow-outs for $50–almost half the usual tariff for a cut–now through the end of the month.

I recently put myself and my locks in the hands of said Director, a bubbly blonde named Krysta Coggins. I was impressed by her thoroughness–she actually measured my hair, using the teeth of  a comb, before proceeding to snip–her imaginative suggestions (with the empasis on the “suggest”–no hard sell here, folks), and her general friendliness: As she worked, she offered several tips for blow-drying at home. Not to mention her versatility: Krysta has experience not just in cutting and styling, but in coloring (both foil and balayage methods) as well.  And she works on men and women alike,  Townhouse being one of the few spas in town that gives equal time, space and care to both genders.

She’s fast, too. In an hour, I was back on the street, sporting a spiffy new ‘do that still felt like me, just revitalized.
