The City's Most Elegant Garage Sale

The City's Most Elegant Garage Sale

Ever visited the home of a friend, one with eclectic but excellent taste? the type who can juxtapose periods perfectly, combine color schemes fearlessly and even mix prints? That's what it's like visiting Living the Lab, a pop-up shop that's gracing the streets of SoHo for a few weeks. It's the creation of Susan MacTavish Best, a West Coast hostess-with-the-mostest and online entertainment-advice guru who's raided her San Francisco home of various treasures and putting them up for sale here, along with new items. It's a merry mix of furniture, housewares, and clothing, displayed in living-room style. A 19th-century end table nestles alongside a Kartell Lucite chair. Daryl K leather leggings hang on the wall next to a mounted ram's head.  Signed Calder prints, meet Audubon inks.

There's not a huge amount of merchandise, but what there is, is cherce--and mainly one-of-a-kind. So hasten down to SoHo, before this magic home vanishes back into the Bay Area mists.
