Guerlain Rainbow

Guerlain Rainbow

In anticipation of the Guerlain pop-up shop, their first ever in the U.S., which opens April 8th at Bloomingdale's, (1000 Third Ave., at E. 59th St., 212.705.2000), I received a generous preview of the beauty goods to come. The brand is one long associated with Parisian glamour and the well-curated capsule collection that will appear shortly on the ground floor of the Bloomingdale's flagship aims to reflect both the tradition and future of the beauty line. The products all include the most cutting-edge ingredients for effects, yet carry that distinctly sophisticated scent that I have associated with makeup since my "dress-up" days. Now I'm playing in the real world and these products certainly carry a cheerful charm. The highlight was a covetable lipstick compact, fit for a femme fatale spy; a bullet-like sleek shape—designed by jewelery extraordinaire Lorenz Bäumer, known for his sculpturesque baubles—which opens to reveal a compact mirror and a fiery red lipstick inside. The magic of the secret mirror sets the mood for this lipstick's usage—it's no everyday rouge. The formula also happens to be carefully considered; intensely concentrated color pigments, plus tiger grass and Vitamin A palmitate to plump lips. All in all, a winning combination. A delightful box full of Guerlain's Gloss d'Enfer Maxi Shine and nail polishes took inspiration from the 1960's pin-up girl. In vibrant shades the reference is clear; these are colors made for confident, feminine women, and they are ultra-glossy too. Each lip gloss is unique, whether shimmering or a deep hue, and they are all remarkably soft and creamy—not sticky—plus long-lasting. Finally, in a bold move towards warmer weather, the Terracotta Bronzing Powder in 4 Seasons allows for varying skin tones and layered degrees of bronzing to be achieved all in one simple palette. It will be the perfect pick-me-up for my wintered skin, in lieu of a beach vacation. And since Bloomingdale's is so nearby, I'll likely be making a stop or two for touch-ups on my tan while the pop-up shop lasts, until May 9th.
