Paramount, Revisited

Paramount, Revisited

Having not been back to the Paramount Bar & Grill since its revamping nearly two years ago, and being that I had tickets to see The Illusionists just down the street from the hotel bar, I thought there was no better meeting place for a pre-show cocktail. When the hotel and accompanying bar reopened in 2013 (the original hotel opened in 1928), the vibe in the glitzy lobby with its plush sunken-in couches was definitely young hipsters (a DJ from the mezzanine blasted house music). The bar/restaurant, however, was a healthy mix of hotel guests of all ages, businessmen, and young artsy/club types. Going back on this Wed. night, I was happy to see that things haven't much changed: the room maintained its sex appeal (curved chrome bar, back-lit wine racks on one wall, and good-looking, friendly bartenders) Wines are generously poured out of mini carafes, then left for the guest to re-pour. And the place was buzzing with a similarly diverse demographic. And, if you do want a little sustenance with your drink, a pre-theater, prix fixe menu is available.
