Top (Sushi) Shop

I first found out about Sushi Shop when I walked into a colleague's office on a completely different, non-food issue. While we were discussing deadlines and feature story ideas, I noticed, on her desk, an appealing, sleek, compartmentalized box of sushi, salad and edamame. They say that food must be visually pleasing first before it can satisfy your stomach, and my friend’s lunch did just that. When I asked her where she got her aesthetically enticing meal, she told me about Sushi Shop on Park Avenue South. I discovered that this chain of take-out or eat-in eateries, now in several locations in Manhattan, started with a single shop in Paris in 1998 and is now popular in several countries, including Italy, Spain, the UK and Dubai. I love visiting the Park Avenue South shop for an early lunch: by noon, one of the servers is usually standing outside with a tray of samples, and inside, you get to pick from a variety of price points, a complete lunch or individual selections. The complete lunch includes complimentary soup or salad, and my $12.95 combo of sushi, edamame and greens is yummy: the fish is fresh and the ginger dressing for the salad is killer. The restaurant has a modern, spotless appeal, with cool-looking futuristic wooden seats and dim lighting that feels trendy and clubby, even in the middle of the day.

I have become a serious Sushi Shop convert: you should too.
