TGIF Lunch Party

TGIF Lunch Party

It's a hot, sunny, summer Friday in the Big Apple, hours away from the start of a weekend, and this editor is not on deadline: what better reason than to meet a friend for lunch at a local hot spot? And so that's how I found my way to Hillstone, a popular eatery on Park Avenue South (formerly Houston's: same company, same restaurant, different name). Since I didn't have a reservation, I was invited to wait for a table or sit at the bar (full menu) or one of the circular high tops (appetizer menu only). I opted for one of the large, cushiony bar stools at the polished blonde wood bar, ordered myself a strong and thirst-quenching iced coffee (in a bottle) and waited for my friend to arrive. I loved the crowded, friendly vibe and the unobstrustive jazz music in the background, but once we were served our lunch choices, it turned out I liked the rainbow sushi roll even more. My friend's order of grilled salmon and asparagus was equally thrilling: a satiny salmon fillet saddled with chilled asparagus, topped with a grainy mustard sauce. The service was friendly and prompt, the kind of place where you can kick back for hours and not bother rolling back to the office, just biding time until the post-work happy hour crowd filters in. Sadly, that was not to be the case today, but what a neat neighborhood joint discovery.
