Party at the Paramount

Party at the Paramount

Without question, one of the major perks of being the editor of IN New York are the restaurant invites to the “next cool restaurant.” The newly reopened Paramount Bar & Grill inside the newly reopened Paramount Hotel, most certainly lived up to the hip quotient. The evening started with my colleague and I enjoying a plateful of prosciutto, nuts, figs and assorted cheeses over a chilled chardonnay at the hotel’s café, Corso, which offers coffee drinks, pastries and mouth-watering sandwiches, all in a very bright, Euro-vibe café setting. Dinner was definitely a mood changer, however. As our table wasn’t quite ready, Francis (my executive editor) and I thoroughly enjoyed the people-watching at the dark, sleek, crowded bar, whose clientele ranged from the über fashionable 20something beauties to Midwestern businessmen on an apparel trip to the Big Apple, to an elderly couple struggling to stay awake over their salmon and branzino. The dinner, culled from a menu of simple and homey offerings, did much to impress. Starters of a chopped salad with a piquant lemon vinaigrette dressing, and tender tuna tartare set the stage for hearty main courses, including a plump and buttery short ribs that give you that immediate lip smacking “ummmm.” Francis, nostalgic for his mother’s ice box cake, ordered one off the menu, which he gave an immediate thumbs up (served warmer and more peanuty than mom’s!). If you are in the mood for a scene, an evening of people theatre and some down home eats, check out the Paramount Bar & Grill. >> Paramount Bar & Grill, 235 W. 46th St., 212.764.5500
