Beer, Bacon and Baseball!

Good food, good drink and an awesome baseball field at the Beer and Bacon Classic.

It sounds like a natural trio: cold beer, hot bacon and a baseball stadium in which to enjoy it all! So thought the minds behind the Bacon and Beer Classic, being hosted this year at Citi Field, home of the Amazin' Mets baseball team. At this event, participants can enjoy over 50 original bacon-infused dishes from restaurants in NYC that include Dos Caminos, Schmackary’s, Bill’s Bar & Burger, Crazy Crepe Cafe and many others.  You will be able to pair the dishes with over 125 different brews from both local and regional breweries (Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon, Harpoon Brewery and Brooklyn Brewery are just a few). For dessert, do not miss the Roni-Sue chocolates (their maple bacon caramels are insanely good). And, when you get a bit too loaded down from too much good food and drink, you can work it off with a bungee run (you literally run down an inflatable path before getting pulled back in by a bungee cord), or play giant Jenga (a game of 54 blocks constructed as a tower, where players take turns removing one block at a time).

Elsewhere, get your pic taken in the photo booth, brand yourself with (temporary) beer and bacon tattoos, partake in the bacon eating contest, or vote for your favorite bacon-infused dish at the People’s Choice Booth. Meanwhile, culinary A-listers will be around to judge the beer and bacon, including Andrew Zimmer of Time Out, Matt Kourie of The Huffington Post and Ruggy Joesten of Yelp.

All this gluttony is not for nothing, by the way: a portion of the profits from the New York Bacon and Beer Classic will be donated to OneBrick, a volunteer outfit that works with supporting local non-profits. Furthermore, City Harvest (a local food recovery organization) will be collecting and donating any extra food to New Yorkers in need of a meal.

The New York City event will be held on April 22 and 23 at Citi Field. For tickets and information, visit
