A Checkered Past: NYC Checker Cabs

A Checkered Past: NYC Checker Cabs

Ah the New York City Checker Cabs, those glorious vessels that are now a vestige of NYC’s past. On June 20th, from 3 p.m. to sunset, some 50 historic Checker taxis, limos and cars will be on public display (for free!) for all to see at the Checker Corral on Box St. in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. (It is particularly poignant to note the old fares, printed on the car doors). The cars, which first hit the streets of the Big Apple in 1922, hail from all over the U. S. including Michigan, Kentucky and New Hampshire.  Owners of the beloved automobiles will be on hand to discuss their cars.  It might be worth the cost of the taxi ride to get out to Brooklyn and check out these Checkers.
