Get Outside on Governors Island
Looking to get outside this Labor Day weekend? Head to Governors Island! History buffs can tour two forts that date back to 1812. Art lovers can explore former officer quarters that have been converted into summer art galleries. There’s also plenty for kids to do, including playgrounds and an educational farm. My ideal day on Governors Island consists of strolling around the grassy green fields and taking in views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, followed by noshing on treats from the food vendors, then settling in for a quick snooze on the public hammocks. Enjoy!
Ferries depart from 10 South Street. Round-trip ferry fare is $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and free for kids.
