Luxe Finds and Delectable Cuisine at The Shops at Columbus Circle

This past week, I went to an event at The Shops at Columbus Circle—the sprawling shopping and restaurant destination inside the Time Warner Center. Hugging the southwest corner of Central Park, visitors will find everything from women’s apparel, accessories, jewelry and more at C. Wonder; to durable—yet affordable—leather goods at Cole Haan; early morning pick me ups at Bouchon Bakery, innovative bites and live DJ music at Stone Rose Lounge; extensive tasting menus of New American and French cuisine at Per Se; and more.

At the event, held in celebrity Chef Marc Murphy’s famed restaurant Landmarc, I had the chance to speak with a few store managers and learn about the latest offerings. At Satya Jewelry, located on the second floor, this season is all about layering and the shop is the perfect place to find delicate necklaces and bracelets, including several pieces in the jeweler’s holiday collection—a spin on the Celestial offerings. Luxe cold-weather accessories in the form of cozy scarves (like the Alpaca scarf) are hot items at Eileen Fisher, while folks will be able to shop plenty of structured bags and more at Coach when it opens in November.

I also got a chance to talk to Chef Murphy at the event. The Chopped judge and Iron Chef America contestant was born in Milan and moved every two years as a kid and a “desire to eat well” sparked his culinary aspirations. So, it’s no wonder the globetrotting chef’s Shops at Columbus Circle outpost offers a menu of contemporary bistro fare that blends French and Italian staples. I ate at the restaurant a few years ago, which evokes an elegant yet laid-back vibe, and took in awe-inspiring views of Central Park and the surrounding cityscape from the restaurant’s home in the skyscraper’s third floor while enjoying strip steak with béarnaise sauce—other sauce options include green peppercorn, shallot bordelaise, chimichurri and butter maitre d’hotel—and a side of crisp, golden French fries. This season, foodies can expect a few popular dishes to make an appearance on the menu starting this week (think a mouthwatering dish featuring lamb shank with Brussels sprouts). And, diners can stay warm this fall with several creative cocktails. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, patrons can still select from the restaurant’s extensive items, with the regular menus offered a la carte because, as Chef Murphy puts it, not everyone wants turkey. Specials will be mentioned tableside. The restaurant will begin taking reservations for Thanksgiving Day on October 27.
