Lalique’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Lalique’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

This past week I visited Lalique’s showroom in the Flatiron District to check out the venerable company’s latest offerings. Founded at the end of the 19th century, Lalique is known for its impeccably crafted brilliant and satin-finished crystal. The diverse range of items includes everything from delicate ink pens and figurines to larger vases. Two items that caught my eye were the updated takes on classic designs for the Tourbillons vase and the Flora Bella bowl—exquisite works of art. I saw several sizes and shapes of the Tourbillons—a large vase with an abstract design that evokes the movement of a fern blossom. Several versions are draped in a hand-applied new blue patina—a symbol for infinity, serenity and peace. First designed in 1930, the updated take on the Flora Bella bowl, which exhibits a pattern of flower petals, changes from pale blue to iridescent purple depending on the light.
