Holiday Shopping at Henri Bendel

Holiday Shopping at Henri Bendel

Once upon a time, an old boss asked me for a favor: to help him find a necklace to give his girlfriend for Christmas. This sounds like a simple enough task; but he had a few requirements: the gift had to be unique, relatively inexpensive and be found somewhere near our Midtown offices. After thinking about it for a minute, I suggested Henri Bendel. The sprawling Fifth Avenue retailer is a must-visit destination for jewelry, cosmetics and other accessories. And our trip did not disappoint. My old boss found a lovely statement necklace, which I later heard his better half loved. I recently went back to Henri Bendel and the store is still bursting with beautiful baubles—from bracelets and statement necklaces in a kaleidoscope of jewel tones by Kara Ross, to delicate necklaces by Miriam Merenfeld, watches by TKO and more. The store even hosts trunk shows—an opportunity for independent designers to display their creations. When I visited I got a chance to see the work of Sarah Magid, a collection of baubles using semi-precious stones in vivid colors, in her first trunk show. The store also boasts a large cosmetic department on the ground floor and the top floor is home to a Frédéric Fekkai salon.
