Get Into the Holiday Spirit with NYC’s Holiday Window Displays

Anthropologie at Rockefeller Center

Window-shopping can be fun any time of year, but during the holidays, many stores up the ante with colorful, creative and interactive displays. Here are some of the best displays around Manhattan:

Anthropologie – At their Rockefeller Center store, intricately painted, larger-than-life Russian nesting dolls pair easily with Anthropologie’s pattern-heavy clothing and accessories.

Barneys New York – The windows at Barneys’ Madison Avenue location currently feature an art installation called “Reflections,” a collaboration with Jay Z that includes sparkly icicle-like sculptures and a geometrical, mirrored igloo-esque structure surrounding the store’s entrance.

Bloomingdales on Lexington Avenue

Bergdorf Goodman – It seems one of the most popular window-shopping spots is the stretch of Fifth Avenue just below Central Park. Bergdorf Goodman takes advantage of the foot traffic outside their store with their elaborate “Holidays on Ice” display. Each window celebrates a different holiday from Thanksgiving to Arbor Day. Across the avenue, Bergdorf’s men’s store is more low-key. Their windows feature snow-fallen scenes of mannequins posed with deer, bears and—surprisingly—a giraffe wearing a necktie. While you’re in the area, look up to see the UNICEF snowflake floating over Fifth Avenue.

Bloomingdales – Over on Lexington Avenue, holiday scenes from around the world sit inside large spinning gift boxes in the windows of Bloomingdales. The department store’s NYC-themed window features a woman hailing a taxi in front of a miniature Bloomingdales amidst a backdrop of popular attractions like the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty.

Hermès on Madison Avenue

Hermès – A block north of Barneys, you’ll find a ski lift motif decorating the windows of Hermès. The small gondolas of the lift are filled with belts, accessories and toy horses while the larger ones contain mannequins bundled in stylish winter clothing.

Macy’s – With the crowds of visitors surrounding the windows at Macy’s enormous Herald Square store, you may have to wait in line to get a good look at their display. Luckily the dream-like motif is worth the wait, with magically sparkling reindeer, tiny fairies flitting around and shiny silver trees.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue – The holiday display at Saks Fifth Avenue retains a sense of humor with windows depicting their legendary Saks Yeti. You can also purchase a plush yeti exclusively at Saks.
