Fashionable Fellas Can Shop Joseph Abboud Apparel at New NYC Flagship

Let’s be honest: for the most part, NYC fellas keep up with fashion just as much as the ladies. And, when it comes to designer duds, there’s no better place to go on a shopping spree than NYC. New York males and big city visitors in need of a fashionable new wardrobe can find just that at the Joseph Abboud NYC Flagship, which recently opened up shop on tony Madison Avenue.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because the man behind the brand is the chief creative director for Men’s Wearhouse, Inc. and guys can shop his garments at the popular retailer’s many locations throughout the country. Abboud recently took the brand online, and, as of May, folks can shop for dapper jackets, durable pants, luxe suits and more at Joseph Abboud’s first brick-and-mortar store, which I got a chance to check out earlier this week.

The 4,300-square-foot space in Midtown, designed by Jeffrey Hutchison & Associates and Abboud himself, is reminiscent of London’s Savile Row—a thoroughfare known for its bespoke tailoring for men—complete with a 15-foot ivory Venetian plaster vaulted ceiling; textile-lined walls, serving as the perfect backdrop for framed hand-drawn charcoal fashion illustrations by renowned artist Bill Rancitelli; plus floor-to-ceiling mahogany pillars with large mirrors; brass and hand-blown glass chandeliers; and charming touches, such as sepia-toned maps, old globes, intricately patterned carpets and rich, leather-bound luggage peppered throughout the space.

The well-appointed store is the perfect place for Joseph Abboud apparel, with standouts of the pre fall collection including a beige tweed, herringbone jacket with elbow patches—the designer’s signature detail, which is also found on coats and sweaters in rich velvety textiles like suede. And, for a modern touch, some items also include zippers at the wrist. A global affair, most fabrics hail from Biella, Italy, with designs dreamed up by Abboud in NYC and apparel manufactured in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

In speaking with the store’s assistant manager, Katie, big trends for autumn will include layers—think jackets paired with vests and scarves, brown jeans and khaki cargo pants. At the store, folks will also find jackets with grey, quilted underlining for that extra bit of warmth. The store also carries fragrance and accessories.

Although ready-to-wear items include an alteration, those in the market for their own creation can head to the mezzanine for custom and tailoring services—with that coveted bespoke suit taking no longer than 21 days from request to delivery (12 days if a rush order).
