Fountain Gallery’s New Exhibit Features Stunning Photos of Central Park

Fountain Gallery, a not-for-profit that represents artists with mental illness, occupies a quiet, corner space in Hell’s Kitchen. The gallery walls are lined with prints from their current exhibition and tall windows. It’s perfect for looking at both artwork and the scene outside on Ninth Avenue.

This season, the gallery features digital photographer Leonard Aschenbrand’s solo exhibition INTO CENTRAL PARK. Aschenbrand, a self-taught photographer, has been part of the gallery for years. His current collection features close-up shots of bees, birds and butterflies as well as images of trees, archways and statues taken at interesting and unusual angles. My favorites include two photographs of the Bethesda Fountain: “Angel in a Snowstorm” (pictured), a black and white print that looks unreal in its high contrast, and “Angel,” which features inverted colors so the sky turns a dark burgundy and the shadows become highlights.

View INTO CENTRAL PARK now through October 30th or check out Fountain Gallery’s next show, opening November 14th. Find out more at fountaingallerynyc.com.
