If you want to see artists from the city’s top record labels battle it out for the ultimate street cred this summer, check out W Hotels of New York’s Sunday summer music series ‘W Gangs of NY.’ Inspired by the cult classic New York film The Warriors, the summer music series invites the city’s finest and most credible record labels to compete against each other through a mixture of live music and DJ sets to determine who is the ultimate (musical) gang of New York. The series takes place each Sunday at a different W Hotel property in New York City and kicked off on July 10 at W Union Square with a special performance featuring Grandmaster Flash, Yeasayer and The Virgins. This Sunday, July 28, will feature Bad Beat Boys (Todd Terry/Strictly Rhythm) vs Park Power Players (LEF1/Camp & Street). The August 4 line-up includes The Out of Towns (Kidnap Kid/Black Butter) vs Midtown Marvels (Shuttle/ Ninja Tune). Future artists will be announced at a later date. A limited-edition capsule collection of eight unique jackets, which represent each gang in the series, was also created. A selection of the jackets are available for purchase starting at $250. The hotels are also offering a special “W Gangs NY” room package, “Reign Supreme,” to coincide with the series, as well as a menu of creative cocktails inspired by The Warriors. Entry to the music series is complimentary and via email RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information and announcements, click here.
