Minus5 Ice Bar Brings the Heat to Midtown West

Minus5 Ice Bar—a new trendy spot at the New York Hilton Midtown. The weather has been pretty tricky in NYC the past few days, so yesterday morning I was bundled up and ready for fall; but by midday was eager to shed a few layers. Needless to say, I was really looking forward to Minus5’s chilly climate. Visitors begin their journey in the intimate lobby, which is filled with racks of heavy coats for patrons to wear, as well as a number of items available for purchase. Depending on the package you choose, you get to sport either a black or cream-hued faux fur coat or a blue thermal coat. Russian-style winter hats, gloves and earmuffs are also available. And, lockers pepper the area for visitors to place their belongings. After putting on one of the faux fur coats and a pair of gloves, I was ready to check out the space. To put it simply, Minus5 is what I imagine a decked-out igloo at the North Pole to look like—filled with handcrafted ice sculptures and ice architecture made from 100% pure Canadian ice. Pretty much anything you can imagine in the space, which also includes a VIP area, is made of ice: the benches, which are draped in faux fur; tables; the bar; glassware; and even a large chandelier. The ever-changing, colorful backlights add a whimsical effect to the room. If you’re looking for a unique party atmosphere and want to bypass the clubs downtown, head to Midtown and check out Minus5.
