One of my favorite comedians is Max Silvestri, who hosts a weekly comedy show called Big Terrific at the Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg. Silvestri, who has recently opened for Aziz Ansari, is now the sole host of the show and usually features three or more other comics’ acts sandwiched between his own on-stage banter. His former co-hosts, friends and fellow comedians Gabe Liebman and Jenny Slate, have since moved to LA, where Slate has guest-starred on Parks and Recreation and Liebman recently released his debut comedy album. Slate is also known for appearing on a season of Saturday Night Live and the viral video “Marcel the Shell.” The comedians Silvestri finds to perform range from the up-and-coming to the already famous. At one Wednesday night show in 2009, I realized I was sitting next to Zach Galifianakis whose breakout film The Hangover was just about to be released. This year, when Big Terrific celebrated its five-year anniversary, the lineup included Mike Birbiglia and Pete Holmes. For more about Big Terrific, check out bigterrific.com.
