A Trip to Marc Murphy’s Landmarc in the Time Warner Center

My father and I are a bit obsessed with the Food Network. So when he came to town this past June, I was given the task of mapping out a slew of restaurants operated by celebrity chefs for us to try. Landmarc, the NYC eatery owned by Chopped judge and Iron Chef America contestant Marc Murphy topped my list. I saw Murphy the year before atWhole Foods Market New Taste of the Upper West Side and he seemed very personable—serving fare from another of his restaurants, Ditch Plains, alongside his friendly staff. My Dad and I opted to check out Landmarc in the Time Warner Center (the original location is inTribeca), which is part of The Shops At Columbus Circle, and we weren’t disappointed. From the third floor of the glass skyscraper, we enjoyed awe-inspiring views of Central Park and the surrounding cityscape. The elegant, yet laid-back vibe of the restaurant translates to the menus—contemporary bistro fare that blends French and Italian staples. I enjoyed the strip steak, which came with my choice of sauce. I opted for béarnaise—from a list that also included green peppercorn, shallot bordelaise, chimichurri and butter maitre d’hotel—and a side of crisp, golden French fries. My Dad tried one of the Landmarc Classics, crispy sweetbreads with white bean ragu. Although I didn’t meet Murphy on this outing, our friendly waiter told us that he’s a great boss and really has a hand in mapping out the menu. If Murphy doesn’t win Iron Chef America, he definitely deserves an award for Mr. Congeniality. For more on Landmarc, click here.
