A-Tisket, A-Tasket, a Pre-Packed Picnic Basket
A-Tisket, A-Tasket, a Pre-Packed Picnic Basket
When the weather is cooperating, it’s nice to take a picnic to the park and enjoy being outdoors. Picnics are great for any time, though. If it’s too humid or if there’s a storm or the like, you can always enjoy a pre-packed meal in your dining room, or from a blanket spread out on your living room floor near a blasting AC or lazily spinning ceiling fan. You can also eat picnics from inside of forts built from sheets, pillows and furniture…
The bottom line is—picnics are awesome, especially those you don’t have to pack yourself. Here are seven great spots around town that will fulfill your picnic needs.
Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen: This restaurant uses fresh, local ingredients to create breads, roast meats and other yummy items. There are two picnic basket options—The West Sider and Fried Chicken Feast. The West Sider includes country pâté and Manchego cheese. The Fried Chicken Feast features—you guessed it—cold fried chicken. Both picnics also come with Blue Ribbon Bakery Market delicacies. Scroll to the bottom of the delivery page—which can be found here—to place your order.
Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse: Davio’s offers a three-course picnic, with each order allowing for two options from its special picnic menu for each course. Click here for a recent Daily NYC post all about Davio’s picnic baskets and what the menu options are.
New York Hilton Midtown: The hotel’s gourmet market, Herb N’Kitchen recently launched their picnic baskets with includes items from local venders (like Murray’s Cheese), two sandwiches, two signature salads, New York cheesecake, a bottle of sustainable wine, as well as glasses, a blanket and plates—all for $68. This location is close to Central Park. Click here for more information about Herb N’Kitchen.
Park South Hotel: James Beard Award-winning Chef Tim Cushman offers three carefully curated baskets—The Rose Hill Basket, Brunch Basket and the Park South Basket—for guests of the hotel and the general public. Baskets are filled with things like homemade snacks, sandwiches, decadent desserts (including Matcha Confetti Cookies, among other sweet treats) and beverages like Counter Culture Coffee Cold Brew or cold pressed juice from Juice Witches. A Frisbee is included with the basket, as is a special Uber promotion code for folks looking to picnic someplace farther than nearby Madison Square Park. The baskets must be ordered through Covina Cafe (click here).
Perfect Picnic NYC: With seven picnic options, you’re sure to find…well, the perfect picnic! There are great options for kids, families, and pairs of people who fancy meats, cheeses and fresh bread. There are also two baskets for romantic picnics. In addition to the savory items and sweet treats, these baskets include a bottle of prosecco and the Ultimate Picnic Delivery offers even more (think two dozen long stem roses, chocolates and caviar…). To order, click here.
The Picnic Basket: With two locations (Fashion District and Midtown East) that are open M-F, folks can order a Delux Picnic or a Solo Picnic. (I know there are three options listed on the website, but I spoke to someone from The Picnic Basket over the phone she said that there are only two picnic basket choices.) The Delux Picnic is meant to be shared between two people and includes your choice of sandwiches, salads, sides, drinks and desserts from the menu. This picnic also includes a basket, blanket and place settings. The Solo Picnic is a boxed lunch that comes with one each of the same options available for the Delux Picnic. Zabar’s: For just $21.98 per person, Zabar’s offers five different picnics, all packed in their signature mini canvas bag. Choose from the Sandwich Picnic (sandwich, side salad, drink, apple and brownie), Bagel and Nova Picnic (Nova Scotia Salmon with cream cheese on a bagel or pumpernickel bread, fresh orange juice, a drink, apple and mini black and white cookies), Salad Picnic (Zabar’s salad, French roll, drink, apple and brownie), Roast Chicken Picnic (roast chicken or Cornish hen, side salad, French roll, drink, apple and brownie) or A Riverbank Picnic (assortment of Zabar’s cheese, French roll, dried fruit and nut, a drink and a chocolate croissant). For more information, click here.
Make sure to check each website for prices, order/reservation policies, additional items included in the picnic (cutlery, napkins, etc…) and delivery zones. Some picnics may need to be ordered at least 24 hours in advance, so please plan ahead.
Enjoy your picnic!
