Ribs. Wings. Brisket. Yum.

Hungry yet?

While Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer, attending a backyard barbecue is a close second.

Or how about a NYC block party barbecue?

From June 11-12, come on down to Madison Square Park for the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. From 11:00 am-6:00 pm both days, enjoy this BBQ-based culinary and music festival.

The block party itself is a free event. Enjoy the live performances, product demonstrations and more. Barbecue, drinks, sides and desserts are all available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. For just $10 a plate, you can eat your way through some amazing barbecue. Sample meats and eats from 14 pitmasters and see for yourself how nuanced the bold flavors are from different regions of the country.

John Stage from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (NY), Scott Roberts from Salt Lick BBQ (TX), Chris Lilly from Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q (AL) and John Wheeler from Memphis Barbecue Co. (MS) are just some of the big names being featured at this year's block party.

According to the official Big Apple Barbecue website, last year there were 14,000 pounds of ribs, 7,500 pounds of pork and 3,500 gallons of beer and wine consumed. I wonder if this year’s attendance will beat those totals?

Founded in 2002 by the Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospital Group, the Big Apple Barbecue has grown from a one-street fair to a mass celebration of food and fun. Proceeds from the event go to the Madison Square Park Conservancy and so far there has been over $1.3 million in donations.

So, go ahead and get yourself those seconds, thirds or eighths—that tasty barbecue is for a good cause!
