A Taste of Old New York At Katz’s Delicatessen

Back before New York City was known as one of the top international culinary destinations in the world, it was first and foremost home to old-school, kosher-style delis, and a few still exist to this day—including Katz’s Delicatessen, which was established in the late 19th century.The popular deli continues to be a staple of the Lower East Side and draws hungry visitors and locals to enjoy the restaurant’s no-frills fare, including its famous hot dogs, as well as sandwiches stacked miles-high with corned beef or pastrami, steak fries, knishes, matzo ball soup and more. When ordering at the restaurant, diners are given a ticket to take around to the various food stations, and the employees at the counters write down your running total on the ticket. A marker even points out where the scene took place and reads: “Where Harry Met Sally…Hope You Have What She Had! Enjoy!” Also make sure to check out the dozens of photos of famous patrons that pepper the walls of the restaurant. From the looks on their faces, they definitely enjoyed it.
