Rainbow Room Reopens with New Cocktail Lounge

New York City is teeming with breathtaking, larger-than-life rooftop restaurants and the 80-year-old Rainbow Room atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza is no exception. I visited the space in 2007 for a private event and can’t wait to go back after its recent renovation (the space closed to start a revamp back in 2009) and enjoy delectable cuisine from its Monday night dinner and Sunday brunch menus and grab a drink at the new SixtyFive cocktail lounge, adjacent to the venue.

Sunday brunch sees the iconic, landmarked dance floor transformed into a culinary stage comprised of several stations, each helmed by a chef with a cuisine specialty. This popular weekend meal also includes a raw bar, selection of house-made breads, roasted meat station, and an array of Asian specialties. Little ones under 12 can enjoy a child friendly, kid-height brunch buffet. The restaurant is also open to the public Monday evenings and most holidays for dinner, including Valentine’s Day. Entertainment—from international headliners to new faces in a variety of genres—also takes place on Monday nights.

On the design front, new touches include enlarged windows and custom crystal curtains that enhance the view and grandeur of the space.

The new cocktail lounge SixtyFive, adjacent to Rainbow Room, serves a menu of classic and contemporary cocktails such as the 1915 Gin & Tonic, with Dorothy Parker Gin, lemon, Angostura biters and Johnnie Ryan Tonic. A previously vacant outdoor terrace on the 65th floor is now used for outdoor seating, offering breathtaking views of Manhattan’s cityscape.

Rainbow Room is open Monday evenings for dinner and weekly rotating entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m. Otherwise, the space is open Tuesday thru Saturday for private events. Brunch is served Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. SixtyFive is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight. For more information click here.
