Mother’s Day in NYC
Mother’s Day in NYC
In Midtown East, a hop, skip and a jump from Bryant Park, Italian eatery Ai Fiori will serve up mouthwatering brunch and dinner options, plus a cool activity this Sunday. Take Mom to the restaurant, located in Langham Place Fifth Avenue, to enjoy a sumptuous three-course brunch, featuring yummy starters such as Zuppa di Piselli (or chilled pea soup) and Torchon (foie gras with strawberries, cashews, lambrusco and mint), plus fancy versions of brunchtime staples, including Smoked Salmon Benedict and duck hash. You can check out all the soul-satisfying offerings here.
I bet you were thinking about getting the special lady pretty posies, right? Of course she’ll remember the thoughtful bouquet, but she’ll totally love a fun activity where she can make her own floral arrangement! As a special treat, Ai Fioro is including a floral arranging class with its brunch offerings. You can learn more about it here.
Is Mom a chocoholic? If so, take her to Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar. You can always pair velvety, rich chocolate goodness with creative libations at this Midtown establishment but on Sunday the restaurant is offering an extra special treat, a chocolate and wine tasting. The tasting will include three wines and three truffles (dark or milk chocolate). The afternoon of indulgence will kick off with a champagne toast and end with a watermelon mojito. Word has it you can even score a complimentary mojito for mom with code “I LOVE MOM.” The tasting will take place from 3 to 4 p.m.
If your mom has refined tastes, consider a caviar feast at aptly named Caviar Russe. The Midtown restaurant’s Sunday offerings, part of a prix fixe menu, will include smoked salmon and lobster salad starters, steak and eggs or foie gras torchon. Mom can end the meal on a sweet note with berries and cream or sorbet. As you probably figured, plenty of caviar will also be available at the intimate eatery.
Maybe it will be more of a sushi Sunday. In that case, visit SUSHISAMBA in the West Village. The downtown restaurant just launched a new brunch menu full of superfood dishes (think acai bowls, quinoa pancakes and sashimi bowls), which will give Mom all the energy she needs for the rest of the day’s activities. On Mother’s Day, the restaurant will also feature entertainment by a Brazilian Bossa Nova band from noon to 3 p.m. The four-course brunch prix fixe, available until 4 p.m., is a wallet-friendly $35 per person. For an additional $25, you can booze up brunch with bottomless prosecco. A special celebratory cocktail, the Guava & Rose Bellini, will also be available and every mom will leave with a sweet treat, Matcha Katsura, a green tea honey sponge cake. Check out the complete brunch menu here.
If you can’t afford to surprise Mom with a trip to France on May 8, the next best thing is waiting for her in Lower Manhattan. L’appart, the chef’s table at the French-food mecca Le District, will serve a tasting menu teeming with mouthwatering morsels such as Maine lobster and Chatham monkfish. Want the deets? Click here.
