The Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District is hosting its 10th Annual Taste of the Upper West Side, presented by American Airlines and Mastercard, on May 19-20. This fundraiser, featuring dozens of the best restaurants of the Upper West Side, raises money for neighborhood improvements (including supporting Wellness in the Schools expenses at local schools) and beautification projects (incorporating green and sustainable practices along Columbus Avenue and the neighborhood’s parks).

This year, the 10th Annual Taste of the Upper West Side, presented by American Airlines and Mastercard, offers two events, Summer in the City: Surf & Turf (May 19) and the Best of the West (May 20), both taking place under a grand text in the O’Shea Complex Schoolyard on Columbus Ave. (btw W. 76th & W. 77th sts.)

Summer in the City: Surf & Turf (Friday, May 19, from 7-10 pm) is co-hosted by Chef/Owner of Butter (and judge on “Chopped”) Alex Guarnaschelli and TV host/author/food and travel explorer Adam Richman. Special Guest Frank Bruni, author and former restaurant critic for The New York Times, joins them and will be signing copies of his book, “A Meatloaf in Every Oven: Two Charry Cooks, One Iconic Dish and Dozens of Recipes – from Mom’s to Mario Batali’s.” Nearly 40 restaurants from the Upper West Side will be serving up their takes on seasonal favorites. In addition to amazing food, there is unlimited wine, signature cocktails and a DJ providing tunes. Participating restaurants include new—or new to the—Upper West Side places like Maison Pickle and Sugar Factory. Return restaurants like Levain Bakery, Shake Shack, Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, The Meatball Shop and more are also among the mix. The cost is $105 per person or two people for $185.

Best of the West presented by Park West Village Apartments (Saturday, May 20, from 7:30-10 pm) is hosted by Jesse Palmer, renowned analyst and host of Disney’s ESPN and ABC Networks featured on “College Football” and “Good Morning America.” Then night honors Chef April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman. Bloomfield has received two Michelin Stars and is a James Beard Award-winner for Best Chef and opened her first Upper West Side restaurant (White Gold Butchers) with Friedman (a James Beard Award-winner for Best Restaurateur) in 2016. Guests will enjoy food from 40 restaurants including Boulud Sud, Rosa Mexicano and Jacques Torres Chocolate, as well as fine wines and spirits. The cost is $135 per person or two people for $250.

For those who want to get a head start on the Best of the West celebrations, there is a Best of the West VIP Reception, presented by 21 West End, on Saturday, May 20, from 6:30-10 pm. During this additional hour, guests will get the chance to have meet-and-greets with celebrity chefs and restaurateurs, as well as have access to a private lounge throughout the entire Best of the West event, receive a chef-worthy gift and are invited to a book signing by one of the honorees of the evening, Chef April Bloomfield (author of “A Girl and Her Pig” and “A Girl and her Greens”). The cost for the VIP tickets is $225 per person.
