I consider myself in a lucky position, being the editor of IN New York and living in Princeton, New Jersey. Not only do I live at the midway point between two of my favoite cities in the world—Philadelphia, and of course, New York—but, when I want some down time, I can come visit the city as if I were any other out-of-towner, stay at a hotel and see the sights. Because after dinner and cocktails, it is simply too late to get back on New Jersey Transit, isn’t it? So, let’s make a weekend out of it!

This year, I am thinking about booking reservations for my sweetie and I at the Time Hotel in NYC. I’ve been there before, and not only do I love the soft tawny and greys of the sleek, modern hotel decor, I’m also a fan of the 24-hour gym and, most especially (for a coffee-aholic like me), the vouchers for complimentary cups of coffee at Goldfinch, which serves Stumptown Coffee—if you haven't tried Stumptown and you are a java lover, it’s a must experience.

This year, the hotel is offering an awfully tempting Valentine’s Day package, which includes a stay in a Superior King or Suite room; a bottle of champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries; and rose petal turn down (might be corny of me, but I am a sucker for how those rose petals smell on my sheets).

Best news of all, the hotel is just steps away from Oceana, one of my favorite seafood restaurants in New York City. The deep-blue banquettes and dazzling, oversize floral arrangements of the spacious restaurant are a stunner, as is the raw bar and spectacular fish preparations (one of my favorites is the sea scallops with black truffles and potato purée).

An after-dinner cocktail in the plush LeGrandeLounge back at The Time, with its plush green-and-purple couches, finish off the day nicely for me. And, the sweetest deal of all: prices for this V-Day special start at just $315 a night, plus taxes.

There is something to be said for romantic getaways, even if you live only a train ride away!
