Have You Been to Urbanspace Yet? If You Love Food, You Need to

Last week, when it was still summer in October, I stopped by Urbanspace Broadway Bites, a pop-up at Greeley Square showcasing a diverse mix of cuisines from local chefs and makers. There is such a mix of original concepts from experienced vendors, as well as talented up-and-coming entrepreneurs bringing their flavors to the markets for the first time. I'm glad I came hungry. Here's a little deeper dive into Urbanspace and what they do. Essentially, they're market cultivators.  "We pack the year with an exciting roster of markets, each featuring an ever-changing lineup of chefs, artisans and makers. We build our markets in the most vibrant thoroughfares of New York City, bringing a dynamic array of food and design to unexpected public venues. Our brick and mortar food hall, Urbanspace Vanderbilt, offers a year-round foodie destination featuring 20+ chef-driven concepts within a truly iconic New York space." Sounds pretty awesome.

I got to take a tour around the outdoor food market and tried as many vendors as I could—for research, of course—and there were a few spots that were real winners. My first stop was the Paella Shack from Barraca. First of all, Paella takes like 20 minutes to make properly, so I was pretty skeptical about how this was going to turn out. The seafood paella was delicious, the rice was cooked well packed with flavors from the vegetables, saffron, and mixed seafood. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'd been stalking Chick'n Cone for weeks on Instagram and I finally got a chance to try it. Chicken and waffles are my absolute favorite brunch food, but this innovation delivers big fried chunks of white meat sauces up to perfection with one of six sauces either a savory or sweet, are then stuffed inside a housemade waffle cone. WHAT? A fork-free chicken and waffle experience? Yes, Please. I could really talk about Urbanspace all day and all the great food, beer, mochi ice cream, the list goes on. The fall installation ends Nov. 10th, so stop in this week, enjoy some fresh air and eat your heart out because "winter is coming."
