A few weeks ago, I went to an event at Comedy Bar NYC. I’d never been to this fairly new Chelsea watering hole and lounge, so I was eager to check it out. The large space has a bar in the front, a lounge—with several comfortable couches and chairs—near the back and several flatscreen TVs throughout. The drink menu, consisting of craft beers, wine and alcohol-infused tea drinks, is reasonably priced and instead of the normal bowl of peanuts at the bar, patrons are served bowls of freshly popped popcorn. You can also enjoy sandwiches and even hot dogs in the space. As the name suggests, this is a hangout for comedians and those looking for a laugh. Comedy Bar NYC is the invention of the founder and owner of the People's Improv Theater (PIT) and hosts everything from stand-up shows to improv/sketch comedy and karaoke nightly.
