Happy Hour at Murray Hill’s Teqa

Happy Hour at Murray Hill’s Teqa

Sure, you can have a mojito or margarita any time of year, but there’s just something about summer that places these warm-weather cocktails at the top of the list. So, a few weeks ago, I had a hankering for creative summer concoctions and headed to Teqa  in Murray Hill with a few friends in tow. The interior of this Mexican eatery boasts beautiful chandeliers and sturdy tables built from wood sourced from the Guadalajara region of Mexico. When it comes to happy hour, this place goes beyond the standard-issue well drinks, beer and wine offerings (think half-priced mojitos and other creative cocktails). While enjoying the sun in the restaurant’s outdoor dining section, I made the daring decision to try “The Painkiller 3”—a mix of one coronita with Frozen Tommy Margarita and an extra shot of El Jimador Blanco Tequila—while my friends opted for a chilled glass of white wine and a traditional mojito. On the food front, the fresh and colorful selections include a variety of gourmet tacos (think pulled pork, braised short rib and mahi mahi), flavorful guacamole (try the lobster guac for something different) and more. My party and I noshed on chips and dip—four dips to be specific (green tomatillo salsa, salsa roja, guacamole, and roasted tomato pico de gallo) and a hearty veggie quesadilla. The best part? This is the perfect place to bring your pooch! While sitting outside, my friend’s dog was treated by the staff to a cool bowl of water (and a few table scraps from us).
