Forget the Supermarket: Get Your Groceries at the Inwood Greenmarket

Sometimes I take it for granted that I live nearly next door to the Inwood Greenmarket. Then I remember all the delicious food I’ve bought there and remember how lucky my neighborhood is to host this weekly farmers market full of great local food vendors, who sell everything from fruits and vegetables to bread and pastries.

Bread Alone is a staple of NYC-area markets—just check out their extensive calendar—and it’s easy to see why. It’s become my favorite place to buy bread with a variety that is mostly organic and spans from the classic baguette to sandwich breads like rye, whole wheat and spelt.

DiPaola Turkey Farm offers turkey any way you’d like, whether that’s in burger, sausage, meatball or another form. You can even buy an entire turkey or email the farmer ahead of time to special order your meat.

My favorite vendor has to be Breezy Hill Orchard, which—along with apples, of course—features apple cider and apple cider-flavored doughnuts. I suggest picking up a half-gallon of cider and a three-pack of doughnuts and then heading home to heat up both for a cold-weather snack.
