A few Saturdays ago, I was in Greenwich Village and decided to try nearby vegetarian restaurant Red Bamboo. Although it was after the dinner rush (around 9:30 p.m.), the small basement space was packed. Luckily, we got a table after a short wait and our food came quickly. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the coconut-crusted soy “chicken” tenders we ordered as an appetizer, but they tasted almost like real chicken. For vegetarians—who miss the taste of meat—or carnivores, who want to dine with their veggie-loving friends, this place has every kind of fake-meat product you can imagine, from burgers and fish to Philly cheese steaks. They also have salads, pastas and many vegan options. For more information, check out: redbamboo-nyc.com.
