Though Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year, you don’t necessarily have to celebrate on the day—stretch the holiday by making plans for the weekend before or after—or anytime, really! Plan a romantic getaway with your loved one to get out of the city for a bit. With Amtrak, you can easily get to some of the East Coast’s major cities and attractions. Click on each city's name for more information. Amtrak trains leave from Penn Station in Midtown.

Boston – Get to Boston in mere hours care of the Acela Express train. This faster trip with few stops allows you to be in Boston sooner so you can take advantage of all the city has to offer. Visit Fenway Park, take The Freedom Trail walking tour of historically significant sites from the American Revolution and explore this vibrant city. If your Valentine’s Day plans involve popping the question, our colleagues in Boston have recommended some perfect spots to set the mood.

Montreal – Hop the Adirondack train for one of the Top 10 most scenic train rides in the world! This daily trip from NYC through Hudson Valley’s lush wine country to Canada takes 10 hours and will have you in Montreal in time for a romantic dinner at any of the city’s finest restaurants like Maison Boulud at The Ritz-Carlton Montreal or Toqué. Spend a couple nights in Montreal, known for being one of Canada’s cultural hubs and a hot spot for hockey, before taking the train back to NYC. If you’ve never been through upstate New York, this is a great chance to do so to see the sights. Don’t forget your passport! Documentation is required to cross the U.S./Canadian border.

Niagara Falls – Amtrak offers several roundtrip packages from NYC to Niagara Falls and back that include hotel stay, attractions passes and more. In addition to seeing the famous falls, there are other great things to do and see in the surrounding area like the Butterfly Conservatory with over 2,000 tropical butterflies and the Skylon Tower observation deck. Don’t forget your passport! Documentation is required to cross the U.S./Canadian border.

Vermont – Vermont is one of my absolute favorite states to visit because of its stunning scenery and overall adorableness. If you and your beloved enjoy New England B&B’s, parks and trails for hiking, local shops and a more laid-back atmosphere, then this is a perfect trip to take. Rutland offers casual and fine dining options sure to fit your needs. For those on a budget, Trip Buzz offers this great list of free and cheap things to do in the area.

Washington, D.C. – In addition to several trains (Acela Express, Cardinal, Carolinian/Piedmont, Crescent, Northeast Regional, Silver Service/Palmetto, Vermonter) traveling to/through/from NYC and D.C., Amtrak offers roundtrip packages from NYC to the nation’s capital. Go on a sightseeing tour of the city to view iconic landmarks like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and more. Take leisurely strolls through the Smithsonian’s fantastic museums and book reservations at any of D.C.’s romantic restaurants

Have fun and safe travels!!
