A few weeks ago, I spent a lively evening at Joe’s Famous Club & Cabaret The Monster in Greenwich Village. The two-floor, gay-friendly establishment—named after a carved wooden sea serpent from a Coney Island carousel—is the perfect place for fans of showtunes. The ground floor has a piano near the large circular bar, and Metropolitan Opera star Deborah Voigt often performs upstairs. The Monster has even got the greenlight from Hollywood—with location and backdrop appearances in Sex & the City, Law & Order and the Tom Cruise hit Vanilla Sky. Celebrity sightings include actors Mickey Rourke, James Franco, Chloe Sevigny; and singers Robyn and Adam Lambert. Head to The Monster and have a few drinks, sing your heart out and possibly spot a celebrity or two.
